VSELA Virtual Meeting and Business Meeting April 28; 9:00 am - 3:45 pm


On Tuesday, April 27th, the virtual meeting will begin at 9:00 am using the Zoom platform.   The focus on Tuesday is, "Creating a Culturally Responsive Science Classroom." Jahkari "JT" Taylor, an award-winning educational leader, researcher, author, and, national speaker will share the latest research on culturally responsive education and strategies teachers can incorporate into classrooms to meet needs of diverse learners.  

Following Mr. Taylor, Melody Mobley, the United States' first black female forester, will share her experiences as an African American trailblazer in a STEM field.  A panel discussion and next steps to ensure all Virginia students receive an excellent science education will be explored.  

On Wednesday our meeting will begin at 9:00 am with a focus on STEM.  We will have an update from the Department of Education, our business meeting as well as a look at creating essential questions and what new assessment items might look like on the 2018 Standards Science SOL Tests.    

If paying by check, please make payable to VSELA and send payment to be received by April 19th to Dat LeArlington Public Schools/Science Office; 2110 Washington Blvd; Arlington, VA 22204.  Your registration is complete when you receive payment confirmation.    Along with your confirmation, you will receive a link to RSVP for the meeting.  Once you have clicked to RSVP, you will receive the link for the virtual conference.  Registration will close on April 25, 2021.
